1. Stop Buying the Cheapest Scratchcards
Generally speaking, the cheapest scratchcards have the worst odds, compared to the more expensive scratchcards.
This means £5 scratchcards have better overall odds than £1 scratchcards, with £2 and £3 scratchcards somewhere in the middle.
To throw a bit of a spanner in the works, scratchcards which have lower top jackpot prizes (but more of them) such as £500 Loaded (2022) scratchcard and £100 Loaded (2022) scratchcard tend to have better odds than comparative price points.
2. Check The Odds
The only real way to compare two or more scratchcards to see what has the best odds is to check for yourself. We know that National Lottery doesn’t make it easy to find – or compare – scratchcards odds. But fortunately for you, we have crunched the numbers and pulled data together to help you out.

3. And the RTP
Another metric that many scratchcard players are not always are of is the RTP (return to player). In short, this the percentage of the total of all scratchcard sales that is given back out as prize money.
So, the higher the RTP value, the more money generated in sales is given out to winning players.
To find the RTP value of any scratchcard, you need to go to the National Lottery site and find the rules for a specific game. Scroll to the last page where you will find a section titled “Prize Value in the Game”.

4. Double Check Your Losing Scratchcards
No matter how good your knowledge of scratchcard games and their rules, it is completely possible that you make a mistake and miss a winner.
If you think you have a loser, put it aside and make sure to check it at a later date.
And if you are still unsure – or simply can’t be bothered – take your scratchcard(s) to a shop that sells National Lottery products and ask them to use their computer to check for you.
5. Cash Scratchcards Before They Expire!

Every National Lottery scratchcard has an expiry date, and you also have plenty of notice to claim. Generally speaking, you have 180 days once a scratchcard is removed from sale to claim an outstanding winners.
So as soon as you win, just go to the shop and cash it in before it’s too late! Remember, you cannot cash National Lottery scratchcards online.

If you choose to play National Lottery scratchcards over online scratchcards, then you are simply making the chances of winning much harder.
That is because online scratchcards don’t have the overheads of paper-based scratchcards; printing, distribution, retailer commission, etc. Therefore, these savings get transferred to players in the form of winnings.
