If you’ve ever bought a scratchcard or lottery ticket, or even been in a shop for that matter, then you’ve probably seen those national lottery stands.
You know, the ones where you get the paper slips to pick your numbers for the lotto, euromillions or thunderball draws and have to hope that the pen is still attached to make your selections.
If you still don’t know, they look like the photo below:

Occasionally they change design, but they usually remain the same colour. Until now.

So, why are they gold, and why only some of them?
Well the answer is simple.
Earlier this year, The National Lottery paid out its 5,000th £1,000,000+ plus prize, across all of its games – including scratchcards and lotteries.
And to celebrate this occasion, any store that had sold one of these winning prizes, has had its National Lottery play stand upgraded to the new gold edition!
Further examples of the gold play stand in action can be found at this store in Scotland! So, there you have it. Make sure to keep an eye out to see if you buy your next scratchcard at a lucky shop!
